Fireplace remodel in Los Angeles

A remodel updates how a fireplace looks, the surround, the mantel, the firebox, or a switch from wood to gas. We do the finish work with the flue and firebox checked, so the update is safe as well as good looking.

What a fireplace remodel covers

The face and the function: refacing the surround, a new mantel, updating a dated firebox, or converting a wood fireplace to gas.

A dated brick fireplace can date a whole room. Refacing it in tile, stone or clean plaster changes the look completely, and a new mantel finishes it. That is the part people picture when they say remodel.

Underneath, we often update the firebox at the same time, and plenty of remodels are really a switch from a wood fire to gas logs or a gas insert. That combines a new look with heat at the flick of a switch.

Why we check before we finish

A remodel is the one time everything is open, so it is the right moment to fix the flue, the firebox and the damper if they need it.

It makes no sense to tile a beautiful new surround over a cracked firebox or a flue that is not safe to use. We check what is behind the face first, so the update does not seal a problem in.

If you are going to gas, that check matters more, since the venting has to suit the new appliance. We sort the safe side and the good looking side in one job.

A quick inspection tells us what to fix while it is open.

How a remodel goes

  1. Look at what is there

We check the firebox, damper and flue, so the plan covers what is behind the face as well as the face itself.

  2. Agree the look

Tile, stone or plaster for the surround, the mantel, and whether you are staying wood or moving to gas.

  3. Fix the working parts

Firebox, damper or venting sorted while the fireplace is open, so the update sits on sound work.

  4. Reface and finish

The new surround and mantel go on, and if it is gas, the logs and venting are set and tested.

Wood to gas, the popular one

The most common remodel we do is turning a tired wood fireplace into a clean gas one.

It gives you heat and flames with a switch, no logs to haul and no ash to clean. Paired with a refaced surround it modernises the whole room in a single job.

The important part is behind the pretty tile. A gas conversion needs the right venting and a liner sized to the unit, which is exactly the work we make sure happens before the finish goes on.

Questions

Fireplace remodel questions

Can you reface my brick fireplace?
Yes. Tile, stone or plaster over the old brick, with a new mantel, changes the look of the whole room. We handle the finish and the working parts behind it.
Can you convert my wood fireplace to gas?
Yes, and it is our most common remodel. It needs the right venting and a liner sized to the unit, which we sort as part of the job, then set and test the gas logs.
Why check the firebox and flue during a remodel?
Because it is the one time everything is open. Fixing a cracked firebox or an unsafe flue now, before the new surround goes on, saves tearing it back off later.
What does a fireplace remodel cost?
It depends on the finish you choose and what needs fixing underneath. We look first, agree the look and the repairs, then quote the whole thing.
How long does a remodel take?
A reface and mantel is usually a few days. A gas conversion adds the venting and liner work. We give you a timeline once we have seen what is there.
Will the fireplace be safe to use after?
Yes. We check and fix the firebox, damper and flue as part of the job, so the fireplace behind the new look is sound and ready to burn.
